ripley/giles/rossiter/lee confusion
« on: Tuesday 09 June 09 14:56 UTC (UK) »

hello,i was wondering if anyone could help me work out these confusing census entries.ive been searching for info on edward giles born c1835 ramsgate who i thought was the husband of olive ripley.the 1861 shows mark ripley born 1808 hellingly, sussex with william, son then anna, daughter then edward giles,son- in- law, then olive daughter, then william son, then ellen daughter then thomas ripley, son, then mark, son, george, son and olive daughter.theres also an anna lee born 1852,bickley.the 1871 has edward giles born 1835,waltershire,kent with wife anne born 1836 kent, mother in law eliza ripley and ellen roysetor(ellen giles) born 1853 sussex.im wondering if anna ripley was edward giles wife rather than olive.also,im wondering if ellen who appears to be a ripley is edwards sister(ellen giles).roysetor could be rossiter, another associated family.on the 1871 theres a walter rossiter born 1850 living seperatly in canterbury, and on the 1901(born tenterden) his wife is ellen born 1853,battle,sussex.there is a marriage which seems likely in west ashford 1875 a/m/j 2a 990.walter rossiter/ellen giles.i can find no marriage for edward giles to an olive or anne ripley. id be grateful to hear if anyone thinks im right here, and if they can make sense of the 1861 for me,and also where anna lee fits in,its a bit too confusing for my small brain, nel.

I have Ripleys and Rossiters in my tree. (Jacob Rossiter, married Mariah Pettigrove.)  The Ripley's are a HUGE tree, and while I cant help with every aspect of your question, Mark Ripley is in my tree, they are in caravans on the 1861.  I have Edward Giles with them as son in law but wasnt sure who he was married to?  I though Olive 1837 had died young, as Mark had an Olive born 1855.  I dont have a marriage for Anna, so she could well be a Giles.
