Would anyone know if the house called "Hamels", once owned by the Freeman family, is the same place/location that used to be called Aspenden Hall centuries ago?
Thanks

Hamels is a few miles south of Aspenden in the parish of Braughing, whereas there is a house called Aspenden Hall still in Aspenden itself - there's a picture and description of it here:
This is an 1856 replacement of a Jacobean house, so it may be that the Jacobean one was the one you were after. Curiously it appears that the present Aspenden Hall is a shell, having been gutted in 1963 for use by agricultural grain dyers - I've heard of barns being converted to houses, but seldom the other way around!

Thanks Richard for the info and the great link.
From that info it does appear that they were two separate places but in close proximity to each other.
What a shame that Aspenden Hall is no longer in use (as a home) - such a beautiful place. I think that Hamels Manor is now a lot of corporate offices and club house for the local golf course. Both are or were magnificent residences but would take a considerable fortune to maintain these days.
Thanks for your help
Much appreciated
