Hi Bob

Sorry, service has been a bit slow this week!

The Carterets seem to have acquired the manor of Haynes c1667, and held it until 1849 when the title became extinct. See VCH Beds at http://www.british-history.ac.uk/report.aspx?compid=62661  The Carterets also acquired the manor of St Macutes in Haynes.  The name survives in a wood known as St. Macute's Wood. I can't find any reference to the extent of these manors, but other than the manor of Franklins, the Carterets seem to have owned all of Haynes, woodlands and all.

The manors were inherited by the Thynne family, and in the 1873 Return of Owners of Land, Lord John Thynne of Haynes Park is shown as owning 4,717 acres with a gross estimated rental of £5,997-11-0. As the parish of Haynes only extended to 2,561 acres it seems as though the Thynnes owned land in other parishes
