Joshua Llawddog JAMES, 1859, Llannelly
« on: Tuesday 17 March 09 00:15 UTC (UK) »

I'm interested in finding out more about Joshua Llawddog JAMES who according to an unsourced family tree on Ancestry went to Australia, had a child there in 1900 and died there in 1922.
But I think he may have married Ruth EVANS in the Pontypridd District in 1885.
A Joshua & Ruth JAMES nee EVANS had a child in 1902 in Treherbert (I have the certificate) - Is this the same Joshua JAMES?
I'd be interested in your comments.
Thank you
Pat

The Welsh 1901 has Joshua & Ruth living in Carmarthen so he could not have gone to Australia in 1900

His father was William so a copy of his marriage cert to Ruth will confirm his fathers name

Treat anybody elses version of your ancestry with extreme caution!!

Thank you.  I've sent for the certificate so should know within a day or two if his father's name was William.
I agree about Ancestry Family Trees - This one even gives an actual birth date for Joshua so presumably (a dangerous word for family history research!) a wrong connection has been made somewhere.

The certificate has arrived and I was wrong!
My Joshua JAMES had a father called Stephen.

I've now traced my Joshua who has been transcribed as Josiah and enumerated as Josuah.

His parents were Stephen & Cathrine JAMES and I believe Cathrine's parents were Henry & Elizabeth STEPHEN from Llandilo.

I believe that STEPHEN JAMES was born at St Dogwells, Pembrokshire in about 1831 and his father was another Joshua, also enumerated as Josuah.

Thanks for your interest
