Littlecott name variants

Original post on Wilts board

~~~~~~~~
Hello all
I am looking for a bit of help with the above name, specifically for Mark Littlecott b 1827/8 Downton, Wiltshire. Married to Emily Bettridge 1853 MAR qtr. I have him in 1841/1851/1861 and 1881 but not for 1871. He may have moved to hants as one of his children was born there. Kids so far Emily J, Mary, Alice Maude M.
The whole situation is made more difficultr as there seem to have been two Mark Littlecotts b 1827/8 in Downton.
I have so far had the following variants with the wider family:
Littlecot/ Littlecotte/Littlecote/ Sothcott/Sothcoll/Littlecobb
Can anyone think of anymore? Or even find heim an the census?
Any suggestions much appreciated
MARK LITTLECOTT married 38 b 1833 private Royal Marines Born Downston,Wiltshire.
i know the age is slightly out ?  but its an interesting one !!  the census states that the marines mentioned are " not aboard"  First census return of this type ive ever seen,,looking at the original.
might not be him,,but who knows.  regards,,Mike.
Thank you - I think. That may just have made it harder still. Nothing like a good mysteryand it might explain why the family don't appear anywhere either.
Thnak you
Aha
this may explain why he is on the 1881 with family, methinks a 'trip' to the NAtioanl Archive for service records is called for
Thank you
Hi all
It turns out that the Marine is not my boy, but I had his parents George and Sarah, crossed with the parents of 'my' Mark who were William and Sarah - so now I have to try and fit William and Sarah in with my Littlecotts!
Thanks for all your help
Hi Sandra,
First i looked for Mark Littlecott born 1827 from wiltshire in 1871, no luck
then refined my search to find a Mark (surname blank) born 1827 Wiltshire with a spouse called emily , and the 1st name that showed was MARK COTT Smiley
Woody.
