Hayden - Co. Kildare
« on: Thursday 19 March 09 22:23 UTC (UK) »

Wishing to find Katherine/Catherine Hayden b. abt 1848 in CO. Kildare. I am very unfamiliar with Irish Research so I am just throwing this out there in hopes someone might find a clue.

She arrived in Australia in 1863 from Queenstown. She was with her two sisters Bridget and Eliza. Their parents were Martin Hayden and Mary Bain.

I wish to find any documentary evidence of these individuals. I wish I knew which parishes to look in. It probably is a needle in a haystack query.

Kind regards,

Mariahswind,

This site, http://kildare.brsgenealogy.com/  (you'll have to register) has records of both a baptism of Catherine Hayden in 1848 and a marriage of Martin Hayden, possibly her father, in 1842.

The bad news is that you'll have to pay them 5 euros to view each record....

Just had another thought - Griffiths Valuation showed the heads of household only, for each family in Ireland in about 1850 (the year varied from county to county).

Look here: http://griffiths.askaboutireland.ie/gv4/gv_family_search_form.php

and enter Martin Hayden - there are only 3 in the whole county, so now you've probably narrowed down the parish to one of 3...
