Hi Kris
Thank you for all your help in my last enquiry. Sorry to be a pest again but I got the marriage certificate of Elizabeth Ann Goldsworthy and now have her parents names and a bit more information and am wondering if you could try to find anything else on either James or Grace Jeffries. The previous information is that both are from Cornwall. They married in Cornwall in 1828 I have been also told. Children were Elizabeth Ann born around 1830, Mary jane and Marie Emma.
Thanks Kerryn

Sorry Kerryn,
Sorry, I can find no sign of this marriage in Cornwall, nor Elizabeth's baptism. 1841 says she was not born in Cornwall so I wonder if the marriage may have been over the border in Devon. It is interesting that Elizabeth stated she was born in Redruth but alas There does not appear to be a baptism listing parents James and Grace to substantiate this.

Hi again Fizzy
Is there any mention of a Maria Emma or Emma Maria in the same family? The 3 girls all come over to Australia on the boat together.
Also is there anything on where and dob for Grace and James? I found Grace and girls in the 1941 census but James wan't there. I also found a James in 1941 that died but don't know if it was the same James as so many were born around the same time it is impossible to tell. If I bought their marriage cert would it tell me more?

No I definately don't mind.
The 3 girls - Elizabeth, Mary Jane and Maria Emma all emigrated to Australia on the Westminster which come from London via Plymoth on 20/3/1848. I have got Elizabeths marriage certs and the last one of the 3 times she was married actually had Grace and James names on it.
Another problem I am having in all this is where I started - John Betts my great grandfather and apparently come from England as well never put any information on his certificates as well. All I know about him is he come from England and he married Elizabeth on 15/9/1851 in Adelaide South Australia. I have even had the church where they got married checking the originals but no parents names or dob or where born are on it. There was a John Betts that come over from England in 1849 on the boat called Bracken moor but we can't determine if this is him or still don't know where he come from etc. Is there anyway of telling from your end?
I am in your debt for this

I contacted the Devon records office and they looked up the marriage, the reply said
I have looked at the marriage entry you mention and there is no additional information about the people involved, apart from the fact that they are both recorded as 'Sojourner' (in other words someone not permanently resident in the parish).
James Goldsworthy signed the register and Grace Jeffery made a mark; the witnesses were Robert Alford and Nicholas (I think) York.
Thanks for all your help
