Hi,

If you want to go through Parish Records at Aylesbury you need to phone and book a film reader.

If you want to look at wills etc - you need to book a place in this room as well.  It is worth booking as the place can get quite busy.  Have you browsed their list of wills that is online?

The staff are very helpful.

Thanks for the suggestions Tazzie & Peony, sorry I didn't reply early, must have missed the notifications!

Peony, I didn't know they had a list of wills online...don't suppose you have a link to that do you?

Hi

http://apps.buckscc.gov.uk/eforms/wills/search.aspx

Scroll down half a page and enter in the surname you are looking for.  If you are interested in any, email the archives and for a cost (I think it is £3.50) they will photocopy the will.

Hi Daisy

The Centre for Bucks Studies in Aylesbury is open for anyone to wander in, you will find parish records, newspapers, census etc. on microfilm or fiche.  The Record Office (in an area off the main section) needs a reader's card, which requires proof of identity.  This contains actual records, if there is an area of special interest it may be there.  Wycombe also has a local studies section in the library which has recently moved to the Eden shopping centre.  The more homework you can do before you set out the better, if you can work out exactly what you are looking for it will be so much easier.

Check out the Bucks Family History website for details of the open day, there are so many other societies there who may be able to give you some ideas.

Slightly off-topic - forgive me.

Tazzie and Carol, we'd better start a RootsChat meet in MK. Smiley I'm near there too. No ancestors in the area but plenty in Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Huntingdonshire.

Just wanted to say thanks to all who helped me on this.

I visited Bucks and the Centre at Aylesbury, and it was brilliant.  I only wish I had had more time to spend at the Centre.  Everyone there was so helpful, and they have SO MANY resources...I felt I only chipped at the tip of the iceberg!

The Centre for Buckinghamshire Studies is a definate must to visit, and I plan to go again, but this time for a bit longer!

Cheers all Smiley
