Ashbourne query
« on: Sunday 22 March 09 11:07 UTC (UK) »

Hi
I cant work out why my ancestor Robert Morris was doing in Ashbourne in 1818.
The details are he married an Elizabeth Golding in 1810 in Chester.Had a child in 1813 and Robert in 1815 all lists his occupation as a shoemaker. Then in 1818 another Robert is born and christened in Ashbourne born 12/1/1818 and christened in 8/5/1818 where his occupation is soldier. There is no further records in Chester to do with the 1st Robert so there is a possibility he died in Ashbourne between his birth in 1815 and 1818.
In 1820 Robert and Elizabeth are back in Chester for further births all giving his occupation as shoemaker.
Can anybody shed some light on this or any death records showing the death of a Robert Morris a child between his birth in 1815 and 1818 around Ashbourne.
Thanks
Ian

Hi Ian,
I wonder if these two articles might explain what happened:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Waterloo
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Recruitment_in_the_British_Army
Hope they help throw some light on it all.
