James & Mary J Tymon - Hull
« on: Thursday 13 August 09 09:26 UTC (UK) »

Help!  Huh

I know from the 1881 & 1891 censuses that James Tymon was married to Mary J Huh.

James was born around 1851 and Mary 1852.  Both were born in Hull.

The first child I can find is Arthur born 1874 in Burnley but they're back in Hull by 1878.

I can't find either their wedding or births in the indexes - I've tried all the usual mistranscription variants of Tymon without success.

Can anybody with more skill than me find anything!?

Thanks very much in anticipation.

Best wishes

Hi Ticker

Looking at the 1891 census, it seems as well as Arthur, they have a daughter called Mary who was born in Burnley about 1876.  There is a birth of a Mary Tymon in Burnley March 1876 8e 213.

If you get that birth certificate it should show Mary J's maiden name.

Hi Again

On the 1871 census James and Mary Tymon were living in Burnley reference RG10 piece 4148 folio 191 page 67, and with them was a Mary Shed shown as mother in law.  Perhaps that means that Mary Tymon's maiden name was Shed.

Lizzie

ps.  I note the M.I.L came from Ireland originally, I wonder if James and Mary married in Ireland.

Hi Ticker
Good to see you back.  I am not convinced that the mother in law is called Shed in 1871.   Could be but it may be something else.   The d is not as ornate as the one in Head for instance.  Chould it be Shea?  Not a very clear image unfortunately.

That makes more sense Andrea, especially as the MIL was Irish.

Ticker

With Andrea suggesting the name was Shea, I think I've found the marriage between James and Mary for you.

June 1869 Todmorden 9a 298, there is a marriage of a James Tymon O'Niel and a Mary Jane Shea.

Hi Ticker

Yours was the first of 2 mysteries I've solved today for Rootschatters, only wish I could break down my own "brick wall" so quickly.
