mcvey maybe arboe where he married
« on: Monday 23 March 09 01:28 UTC (UK) »

Hi I tried to find information on my husband Richard mcvey, his gt grandad and gt gt grandad from co tyrone.
these are the names  and birth dates James mcvey born 1836 I think cooktown, and his father before him was also a james mcvey born 1816 just said ireland I have a marriage for this one dated 1816 his wife was a Annie steele would like any iformation on them, or where they could have been buried, where he was born. somebody wrote back found a Mcvey married to a Mary Ann Smyth in 1855 at a place called Arboe, this was his first wife, in 1960 he came to australia on the ship the telegraph and married again in sydney in 1961 at the scotts church sydney to a Julia rolfe born 1842 from camberwell in england.  so it looks like his frist wife died by 1960, just wondered if
anyone could look up a death of this Mary Ann Smyth to see if she died about that time.  Just wondered how far away from cookstown Arboe is??
Of course this may not be his first wife but its the only information I have to go by.
appreciate any more help if possible.

Barbara,
I can confirm the marriage of James McVey to Mary Anne Smyth on 24 Apr 1855 in Arboe Church of Ireland in the parish of Arboe in the district of Cookstown. Unfortunately Civil registrations of deaths in Ireland did not start until 1864 so you  will have to depend on church records, where they exist. Presbyterian churches generally did not keep burial records.

While it is true that most Presbyterian churches didn't keep burial records many Presybterians were buried in Church of Ireland graveyards.
