Chris, as I said last night, you are more than welcome to the credit. It has been sitting there for nearly a year. I know what it is like searching for the Irish Ancestors. I've spent years at it, we've visited the area time and time again using Ordnance Survey maps. Have scoured 10 cemeteries looking for clues, almost remortgaged the house spending money at the North Mayo Heritage Centre - just ask my hubby - we found absolutely 'zilch'. I have viewed every piece of film at LDS - nothing. Ok there might not be any papers for the parents marriage, that I can accept, but there are absolutely no birth records for our 3 boys. It's like they left County Mayo and headed for Leeds, with all their past erased. But, I live in hope that one day something will turn up. I will never give up. That aside, County Mayo is absolutely gorgeous. We just loved the place. Good luck in you search.
Dee

Hi Dee...Yes, it was kind of you to use up your last credit, thank you.
If you've looked on the internet and been to the research centre in Co. Mayo then you've done all you can. Do you know the parish they were baptised at? Here's a link that might help: http://www.irelandgenweb.com/~irlmay/mayosurnamesAtoG.htm they have a surname list which might help, if you haven't used it before that is.
On this website I found two Berrys in Inishturk, could be where Hannah was born?
I'll send for John Milford's birth certificate next week (I've printed off Sheffield Register Office form for it) and hope it tallies with the information you sent.
Thanks once again for your help.
Kind regards Chris.

@heywood
It's interesting that you talk about the O'Malleys being the chiefs in part of Mayo. I learned about this today after learning yesterday that my ancestor Martin Melia was originally called O'Maille (O'Malley). I would like to know more about him (he was born about 1808 in Connacht, perhaps near Kilmeena - he came to Lancashire with his son and without a wife in the mid-century).
But mainly I want to ask you how probable you think it is that someone with the name O'Malley in that area would be descended from the Clann Clann Uí Mháille? Hope you catch my message.
Dan

Thank you Heywood. You'd think on the one hand a lot of the O'Malleys might be descended from them given it's such a sparsely populated area, but then again I've no evidence, and if there's an exact science to this I'm unaware of it - except I just found this which has good information: http://www.surnamedb.com/surname.aspx?name=Melia I got my info on the clan from some entries on Wikipedia, like Achill Island and Connemara
After he came over, Martin and/or his family were referred to as O'Malley in the 1861 census, Maley in 1871 and they had consciously changed it to Melia by 1881. My understanding is that Melia is an Anglicisation.
Thanks again for the welcome.

Hi Dee...I found Melody Michael Carrick Attymass Mayo and Melody Michael, Jr. Carrick Attymass Mayo on the http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths/mayo/attymass.htm website but there are loads of other towns listed there. These are the Griffiths Valuation lists. Hope it's of some use?
Kind regards Chris.

Chris, thank you for your help. I should have made myself clearer re our lot. I know who they are, where they came from etc. Ther big problem is they didn't leave any formal paperwork behind i.e. births and marriages. The only document I have is the 'probable' death certificate for the father of the 3 boys that came to Yorkshire and that does not tell me a lot. I have viewed every Melody document looking for clues. There is nothing for our 3 boys. I even went to Wakefield Archives to view a document - one of the boys joined the Police Force when he arrived here - there is nothing on that either. I do apologise for not being and clearer. I feel like I've wasted your time. Thank you again and best wishes Dee

Hi Dee...No, you haven't wasted my time, I jumped the gun before finding out who they were and where they came from. It's not much help when they haven't left any clues either is it? Who were their parents and what dates were they born? This will at least give you a base to start from.
Good luck.
