Mearing Family of Shinfield
« on: Monday 23 March 09 17:55 UTC (UK) »

Charles Mearing was Baptised 2/3/1745 at Shinfield his wife's name was Francis but I don't know Francis maiden name or where or when they were married.

Charles's parents were John and Sarah but that is all I know of them.

Would anyone have any information on this family.

There is a John Mearing buried at Shinfield on 16 Dec 1810 aged 74 which would make his dob 1745/1746ish.

MEARING John, bur. 16 Dec 1810, aged 74.
MEARING Frances, bur. 18 Aug 1816 aged 58? She's a bit young to be your Frances? from Oakingham

This could be John's parents:

MEARING John, bur. 14 Aug 1805 aged 90
MEARING Mrs Sarah, bur. 23 April 1798     [no other details given].

John buried 1805 aged 90: his baptism:
15 Mar 1815, Shinfield, Son of Henry

for some reason all the children of Henry only have his name and not their mothers.

Thank you Matt for a lot of information.

Charles did have a brother named John who was baptised one year earlier on the 26 March.

It looks like their Father lived to a great age, having been baptised in 1715.

Shame Henry's wife's name is not recorded.

Sorry I must have missed this one
7 Mar 1813, Charles Mearing was buried at Shinfield, resided at Burghfield.

The IGI shows many Mearings born to just Henry Mearing which is most annoying.

My Mearing line finishes with SARAH.

A lot of the following information you kindly found for me.

Sarah Christened 14/12/1783 Shinfield.
Married William Bedford 23/5/1805 Shinfield.
Died Sept. 1/4 1868 Wokingham.

Sarah's Parents Charles & Francis.
Charles Christened 2/3/1745 Shinfield.
Buried 7/3/1813 Shinfield.
Date of Marriage not known.
Francis maiden name and date of birth not known.Place maybe Oakingham?
The burial date 18/8/1816 you have listed is a strong possibility that this is the correct Francis. This would make her year of birth 1758.

Charles Parents John & Sarah.
John Christened 15/3/1715 Shinfield.
Buried 14/8/1805 Shinfield.
Marriage not known.
Sarah's maiden name and date of birth not known.
Buried 23/4/1798 Shinfield.

John's Father Henry.
The only detail known is that Henry was buried on the 28/2/1753 Shinfield.
Mother not known.

Thank you once again Matt for all that information.

Hi, I have just found this thread.  I am also descended from the Mearings of Shinfield and my direct ancestor was John Mearing (born 1744), the brother of Charles.
My Mearing line ended with Ann Mearing born 1832 in Shinfield, who married Thomas Towner in 1855.  Their daughter Jane was my great-grandmother.  Can anyone help me to find a missing marriage?  Ann's father James Mearing (born 1806) married Jane (surname unknown) about 1830 almost certainly in Shinfield as that is where my Mearing ancestors remained.
This marriage does not appear on the IGI (or at least I can't find it!) and I would love to know when James and Jane married and what her maiden name was.
Any information would be much appreciated, thank you.

Lavender.

Did Ann and Thomas Towner have children
James buried at Shinfield on 28 Jul 1869 aged 6
and Phoebe ditto on 21 Feb 1869 aged 8?

It looks like James & Jane died young:
James Mearing buried at Shinfield on 13 Mar 1857 aged 51
Jane Mearing ditto on 1 Dec 1859 aged 55

I can only offer you a lookup the next time I'm at the BRO for the marriage

Hi Matt,
Yes, James was the child of Ann and Thomas Towner but I didn't know about Phoebe.  They had children born about 1858 (Thomas Jr), 1860 (George) and 1862 (James who died 1869) so Phoebe must fit in somewhere between these.

You have got the right James Mearing and Jane, they had both died before the 1861 census.

I would be very grateful for the marriage lookup if you have the time, that would be fantastic.  Many thanks for the offer.

Regards,
lavender.
