Hi Paulene.

Thats super on EMEB I didnt see her at that address on the electoral rolls - thats where I got some of the other data.

You reminded me that our old home phone number was SOUth 0257... I hadn't thought about that for years!

Where did you access those phone books? Are they accessible for c1924 in London area?

You have certainly added to the fund of data... thanks again... Ill try to put a picture of W H B her Dad here... or Ill mail it to you.

Sorry to hear about the Dog. I could imagine you have had him/her fitted with wellies in these last few weeks!

Glad to know you are still there. Thanks again.

Kind regards

Colin

Hi Colin,
The phone book information is on ancestry.co.uk/com (*.com is free at many libraries) - they have details from 1880 to 1984 - very useful for locating people post 1911.
Has scrimnet managed to find any more information, Colin? I expect he's been busy over the spring/summer with various things.
Did you ever get hold of WHB's army service record, Colin?
I'm looking forward to seeing the photograph - thank you.

Thanks 'Scrimnet'.

Did you notice where the Colonel died?

No urgency but  wanted you to be aware how much we have amassed... you did see the report to date?

On Sunday, in the rain, the young Padawan and I spent not some little time wandering around Harborne St Peters churchyard....

What a mess!!! I was appalled and dismayed....Worse than the worse parts of Highgate in it's neglect. An awful lot of the memorials are covered in ivy, the rest are in poor array. A word with the Sexton I think is the only way to find him....I'll take some pics tomos

Hi Scrimnet,

Sorry to hear that... you and yours getting wet and the state of St Peters Churchyard/cemetery... but thanks for trying.

We have really moved the Col. and his history on quite a lot between us and with my visit to the BL.

Outstandings are still his parent's origins and what became of his sister.

His enlarged and enhanced photo (can't see how to attach it here... help!?) confirms his Cape service when he was with the 44th Battery RFA.

I have been trying to find out if this group went there from India or UK. If UK we might be able to find his attestation papers here.

The BL told me his Dad (also William Henry Brookes) was Sgt - officiating Barrack Master in India, I found his marriage to Elizabeth Carson in 1879 and his and the colonel's sister's births in India in 1879. His Grandad is also named on the marr cert.

I was about to burn all the trees to a DVD to give to family in the Antipodes next month when my Mac threw a wobbly so is now back at Apple for treatment! Happily they are on a USB stick just in case, too!

Trust you are well?

Again... thanks for your help. Much appreciated

Colin
