Morning !

I have an hour off this afternoon so will be popping into the library to look at the censuses for Wm and Sarah Daltry (see previous post) and see if I can find which area they and son Robert hail from.

How do I find the church where Robert Daltry got married so I can find his wife Martha's maiden name? IGI only show Newton heath and a quick visit to Genuki shows a lot of churches there.  If I knew her maiden name I could look up her birth in Matlock too. Without that I could find loads of Marthas in 1802 !!

Mum's old school? so you are a Derbyshire lad then?

I just creep in as a Derbyshire lass I suppose because I was born in Chesterfield although I grew up mostly in Leicestershire. My sister still lives just outside Derby and all of Mum's family were from the Matlock area.

You may get lucky and find that Robert and Martha married at the church where he and his siblings were baptised. When you have one of the IGI records up you can click on the source number and that will usually tell you which church so in this case it is Church of England, Chapelry of Newton Heath and that may be All Saints but the library is sure to know.

There is a site http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~hughwallis/ which shows which records and years are included in the IGI. Newton Heath marriages are only on there from 1850 but Manchester archives has them from 1729 so I would look there first for the marriage.

If that turns up blank it will be harder. Where were Robert and Martha's children baptised? Oldham? Lots of churches there Grin

Martha is from Bonsall so assuming she was baptised there you could try the Bonsall records. There is a cd of transcriptions available via Genuki and if it is like the Matlock ones from the same person, it is easy to search for a first name over a couple of years. You could see how many Martha's come out of that and perhaps see if any family members moved to Lancashire?

Or you could look at Robert's siblings and see if any of them married and baptised children at a particular church. At least Daltry is not a very common name.

Robert's siblings were christened at Newton Heath as he was but no clue as to church. Their children I think were baptised at St MArys Oldham but can't find marriages

I can go to manchester Library at sometime to look for Roberts marriage but what year? If I don't know that, I will be there for ever !! Can't find any clue to his or his siblings marriages on IGI.

Source shows lots of churches in Newton heath. They ended up Methodists so maybe search those first? But when for ? Hmmmm Hugh Wallis shows 2 batches for Newton heath but doesn't mention a church name.

I'll look at Genucki tomorrow- too tired to think ATM
Thanks again

Hi again
Back from Matlock with all my copies / certs that I wanted. Amazing to see how many Stevensons lived in Old Brampton ! My eyes were going after 5 hours of the micro reader but I got a long list of births, some marriages and a few burials, from 1607 onwards Smiley
So far, not got Henry Stevenson bpt- some of the records are incredibly hard to read and I don't have a date for him.
Also got bpt of Martha (wife of Robert of Newton Heath) but there were 2 Marthas born in 1802 and I'm not sure how to find which is mine
(Talking of which, yes there is a mistake on IGI re Jonadab- the correct entry was as you first found. Thanks, so much help)

All this will take some time to digest but spurs me on to find Robert Daltry now, which means a long time searching records at manchester as I don't have a marriage date for him. The only one on IGI is the wrong wife.

Thanks again. Thought you'd like to know my results Smiley

Great progress  Grin
Perhaps you can rule out one of the other Martha's if you can find who she married?
Good luck with it all. Lucky you can get into the records offices that you need, even if you have to wait a bit.

Matlock was very interesting !! My eyes ached for days <g> Found lots of Stevensons and also another ancestor from Bonsall so another path to follow.

How do I put all this into the Look Ups Completed file on here ?

You said I could ask if I needed any more census look Ups. Is that only Derbyshire cos I can't find an ancestor from Cheshire on the 1841. I've posted the request onto Cheshire Look Ups.

Thanks again

Hi
You can just add "Completed" to the title of the first post, by clicking edit. Some boards move completed requests to the side but I don't think Derbyshire does.
I have Stevensons in my tree but only from Wensley/Darley - my gtgtgrandmother was one.
I'll look at the Cheshire post and see if I can help. Good luck with it anyhow  Smiley
