Missing family from Quinlan, Texas
« on: Wednesday 25 March 09 18:40 UTC (UK) »

Can anyone help me find details of the following family who I have not been able to find, since the 1910 census when Charles Glen (31) and wife Mary Jane (Mollie) (33)were living with their son, Tom (1) were living with Robert & Rebecca Matthews at Precinct 7, Quinlan, Hunt County.
Think Charles was born in Scotland and Mary Jane (nee Matthews) was born in Texas.
Mary Jane (Mollie) Matthews had married R.R. Warren, at Kaufman in 1895 and they had 2 children Alvin J H (1897)and Robert  H (1900). Mary Jane married her 2nd husband, Charles Glen in 1908 at Kaufman.
I am trying to find any of the above after 1910. I think they may have moved away as they were never at any of the family funerals after 1912. Not sure if the below is for the same man.

Charles GLEN
       Birth Date:   17 Mar 1879
       Death Date:   Sep 1964
       Social Security Number:    461-07-5346
State or Territory Where Number Was Issued:    Texas

       Actual Death Residence:    Texas

I found two WWI Draft Registration cards for men named Charles Glen, born 1879 and living in Texas.  One has a birth date that matches what you found and was apparently born outside the US.  The wife's name doesn't quite match, though.  The other was named Charles Heywood Glen, was native born, a blacksmith, and had a wife named Clemmie Jane Glen.

Anyway, here's the info for the non-native born one:

Charles Glen
Houston, Texas
Born 17 Mar. 1879
As for race, it looks like he said yes to white & Indian.  He was not a native born citizen, but was naturalized.
Occupation - loftsman, Midland Bridge Ship Building in Fidelty, Texas
Wife was Clauda May Glen at same home address

I found a WWI Draft Registration card for Alvin Mace Warren born 30 Jul. 1897, living at RFD #1, Quinlan, Tex.  His nearest relative was Mrs. R.W. Matthews, living at same address.

I also found a WWI Draft Reg. Card for Robert Henry Warren of Quinlan, TX, born 27 Dec. 1899.  His nearest relative was Mary Jane Glenn of Quinlan, Texas.

The Texas Death Index has an Alvin Maise Warren who died 20 May 1919 in Hunt Co.

On findagrave.com, there's an entry for Thomas J. Glen, Sr., born Sep. 18, 1908 in Kaufman County, TX.  It says he's the son of Mr. & Mrs. Charles H. Glen, nephew of W. W. Rozell, and brother of Charles H. Glen and Mrs. H.H. Askins.  Maybe that Rozell is the one from the census Erato found?

I think the 1920 Census with the bad handwriting says Ward & Mattie Rozell and Ward's mother-in-law was Rebecca Mathews.  The daughters of the Rozells look like Millie, Myrtle, Emma, and Minnie to me.

Yep, Ward "W.W." Rozell seems to be the right connection:  http://boards.ancestry.com/localities.northam.usa.states.texas.counties.hunt/1708.3.1/mb.ashx

Can I say a big thanks to you all. I know the Rozells were relatives of the Matthews family, who originated from Ireland.
I know this is cheeky, however any ideas on the 2 Warren boys who were the first children of Mary Jane (Mollie) Matthews and R.R. Warren, who were married in Kaufman in 1895. Perhaps they satyed with their father.
Thank you again, as this had been a brick wall.

I had not read all the very kind replies on my subject. I can now see everyting I asked for has been answered.
The 1930 Census for Precinct 1, Hunt Co., TX, would have read
Walcy Ward Rozell - 52 - Head
Mattie Frances (nee Matthews) - 45 - Wife
Myrtle May - 18 - Daughter
Emma Edroad - 15 - Daughter
Winnie Wilton - 11 - Daughter
Dessie Dean - 10 - Son
Walcy France - 7 - Son
Aubrey Adrian - 11 months - Son

Thomas J. Glenn - 21 - Nephew

In the 1920 Census it shows Rebecca 72, mother in law. She was the widow of Robert W.Matthews (both born in Ireland).

Missing from the 1930 census in Mary Jane Glenn who in 1920 is shown as 41 - sister in law.
Could she have died before the 1930 census, as her son Thomas is still living with the Rozells. His father Charles Glen(n) must have died before 1920 as Mary Jane Glenn is shown as a widow. Charles Glenn was born in Scotland, as shown in the 1910 Census.
The WW1 draft registration cards for Alvin Mace Warren and Robert Henry Warren are the sons of Mary Jane (nee Matthews) from her 1st marriage to R.R.Warren.

If it is possible I would like to know when and where Mary Jane Glenn died, or if she married again after 1920.

Thank you all for your time and valuable feedback with has shown to be very accurate and has helped me immensely.

Just in case you don't have it, there's a death certificate for Alvin Warren here:  http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#p=home  It's mistranscribed as Aliene Maise Warren.
