Hi, Xander. I'd love to exchange information. You need to make two more posts and then you will be allowed to send and receive personal messages. You will notice that I am only related to Mary Curtis by marriage - being a descendant of Janet Conning, the sister of Mary Curtis's husband, Anthony Conning. I have quite a lot of information about the Connings and their descendants in the US.

I have a marriage record for a Mary Curtis to a Charles Lea or another referance has the last name as Tea. they were married 21 Oct 1841 in Cyahoga County Ohio.
I have often wondered if this was a first marriage for Mary. She would have been 20 years old at the time so the time and place are right. And your referance about your Grandmother saying Anthony Conning married a widow made me think we should be looking for a Mary Lea (LEE, Tea) marriage to Anthony Conning? Just a thought. What do you think?

I’m pretty confidant that my grandmother’s information was correct – that Anthony married a widow. I haven’t found many errors in her information, though she did have the situation with Stella confused. Stella has thrown me off for a long time. Since I haven’t found Mary Curtis in the 1850 census, I’ve assumed that she must have been married or widowed at that time. Where did you find the record of a Mary Curtis marrying a Lea, Lee or Tea? Have you found these people in 1850? I’m going to look now.
Mary Curtis seems to have had very bad luck with husbands- either that, or she was knocking them off.

I don't see any likely candidates named Mary Lea, Tea or Lee in the 1850 census.

Yes. I tried Charles Lea, Lee, Tea in Cuyahoga and in Medina. No luck.
The best candidate I ever came up with for Mary in 1850 was Mary Bissell in Medina County. Married to Erastus Bissell. She was the only Mary I found in Medina or Cuyahoga who was born in 1820 in Ohio, was married but had no children, and could not be found in 1860.
Of course, no guarantee she was in Cuyahoga or Medina in 1850.

To Xander,
I am Mel, your Curtis Cousin in San Jose. Am I already in contact with you or is this a new "cousin"?
