Boston Passenger List Lookup
« on: Wednesday 05 August 09 15:34 UTC (UK) »

Hi all

I'd be delighted if anyone can help me with a Boston Passenger List 1820-1943 lookup as I don't have worldwide access, pretty please!

I've got a missing ancestor and I think I may have found his wife and kids returning from Boston to the UK in 1891, but hubby is not with them.

Ancestry has an entry for a Boston arrival and the transcription details for his name are recorded as JAMES BALBARNEY.  If this is my missing man, it's just another transcription error or weird and wonderful spelling of the surname, which I've come to expect to be honest!

I'd be eternally grateful, a thousand thanks in advance if anyone could help me out.

Lass x

Thank you so much geniecolgan for taking the trouble to look for me - turns out it's not my man after all ........ fiddlesticks!  Ah well, sometimes it's good to know where he's not!

Jorose, many thanks for the tip, I'll take a look and see if my chap pops up, as I'm fairly certain his wife and kiddies were out there.

You are very welcome Lass.

I did look at the image and it is very clearly Balbarney  Cry

When do you think your man went out there?
If before 1880 there is the free U.S. census on the LDS site.

If they were in Massachusetts, death records are starting to be added here:  http://labs.familysearch.org/  There's also various US census records there.

I didn't know whether this chap was ever actually out of the country, let alone in Boston, but it was an avenue I wanted to pursue as I can't seem to pin him down in the UK.  I had thought, in a very, very blind AHA! moment that I'd found his wife and kids heading back to the UK from Boston - in the cool light of day, I see, quite clearly, that it couldn't possibly be them!  However, it does now mean that I have Balharry's somewhere in the tree returning from Boston and it's another avenue of another branch for me to investigate when I get around to it!! I am very grateful for your help and have bookmarked the links for future reference (you just never know when it might come in handy!!). If I find anything turns up further re Boston, I'll update you!
