Hi,
I am trying to get some info on a highly probable marriage between Christine Amy Piquet of The Little Cottage, La Rocque (b. 1883 in Jersey) to Ralph Gale. In the 1911 census they are living in Tunbridge Wells, Kent and have been married for one year.
Can anyone help me please
Steve Gilbert

Hi Steve
The index entry for the marriage is:
St Helier, Registry Office, Dec 1908 to Sept 1911, page 35. There is a Ralph Goulstone Gale on the same page.

Stewart,
That's fantastic. Exactly what I was looking for - married to Ralph Goulstone Gale in St Hellier. Ralph was one of the brave men that died 26/03/1918 in France in WW1 and left a young family to fend for themselves.
Thank you so very much.
Best Wishes.
Steve

Hi Drongo,
We are doing a family tree for a friend of my wife. If Ralph and Christine are your Gran and Grandad then you must be our friend's 3rd cousin twice removed.
We have Ralph and Christine in the 1911 census with their 6 month old baby daugther Joan Ursula living at 55-57 High Street Tunbridge Wells. Ralph was a Phamacist. Did they have any other children.? We just found a Pamela M Gale with a mothers maiden name of Piquet born Sep 1914 in the Christchurch district. Can you confirm she is Joan's sister? If this is the case I guess one of these ladies may be you mum?
My wife's friend comes from Tonbridge and her mum's mum was Joan Mary Gale. She would be your mum's 2nd cousin once removed.

Hi Steve. This is a new venture for me. Joan Ursula Gale (nee Piquet) born 21.10.1910 died 25.9.2008 was my Mum, she was, like her Dad Ralph who was killed in WW1, also a pharmacist. She married my dad Charles Leslie Bell, also a pharmacist in New Malden, Wimbledon on 5.6.1934. They emigrated to South Africa in 1948 where they lived till their death and where I grew up. She had a sister Pamela Mary who married William Peacock a rubber planter in Malaya where they spent most of their life before retiring to Perth in Australia. I have quite a lot on the family tree of Christine Amy Piquet, my granny from Jersey, and my grandfathers (Ralph Gale) Goulstone family from the Bristol area. Maybe someday, if you are interested and when I can work out how, we could swap family trees which I have been doing on Ancestry. Kind regards Drongo

Hi Drongo
Thanks for the information, it was really interesting. We have traced the Gale family back to Thomas Gale b.1758 in Box, Wiltshire, but we have nothing on the Piquet family prior to Christine. We've traced the Goulstone family back to Thomas Goulstone b. circa 1819 in Somerset.
What software have you used to generate your family tree? We use Family Tree Maker and could generate a Gedcom file which we could email to you. We haven't uploaded this tree on to Ancestry as it's not ours and it has some living people on it. We tried looking for your tree on Ancestry, but couldn't find it, have you uploaded it?
Have you seen the Commonwealth War Graves Commission website where Ralph's grave in Sains-En-Gohelle is recorded?
It would be nice to swap trees and compare notes. Are you a member of the Genes Reunited website? We can swap email addresses safely in there. I don't know how to send you a personal message on this website.
Thanks.
Steve

Thanks. Yes it would be nice if we could just make e-mail/postal contact without having to go through this site. Not sure how to go about this. I have put most of what I know onto Family Tree Maker on my computer but not sent or posted it anywhere. Likewise don't know how to pass this on. I am rather computer illiterate My family trees are really just for fun on big sheets of paper. Try Goulstone on Google, there is a lot there, going back to Roger Golston born about 1490 at Chew Magna. I don't know how reliable it is but it looks sound. I know nothing about Gale family prior to John Gale of Bournemouth born 1869, my great grandfather, so would be interested to hear about his immediate ancestors. I have a single line of Piquets going back to Pierre Piquet in Jersey who died about 1562, this was researched by my Australian cousin on a visit to Jersey, as they are quite a well known Jersey family. Christine Amy Piquets Dad was Frederick George Piquet born 1853 St Helier and her mother was Clara Amy Willcox born about 1857. They married in St Helier in 1879. I havn,t been able to find much about Ralph Gale my grandfather, my mother wouldn't speak about him and WW1 records are sparse. He was catholic and went to private boarding school at Prior Park College near Bath. He was a pharmacist in the army but felt he wasn't doing his bit so volunteered to fight and was killed near the end of the war leaving yet another traumatised family. Mike Bell

Hi again,
I've worked out how to send your a personal message on this website. If you look at the top right of the page you should see you have one message (from me). Please click on the message, read it, and send me an e-mail .
I guess your mum was only 8 when she lost her dad - now wonder she didn't want to talk about it. That must have been hard.

Hi, my name is Peter Effer and I descend from Thomas Goulstone's brother John. John and Thomas' parents were James Goulstone and Betty Hill Goodhind. Betty Hill is a direct descendant of King Edward III. I can fill in spaces if you like.
Regards,
Peter

Hi Petranddawn. Yes it would be great to get any more information about the Goulstone family. I suspect I would not be able to add anything you dont already know. Thank you Mike Bell

Hi Mike,
Can you send me an email at peteranddawn@rogers.com. It would be easier for me to send you information directly. I am also interested in your direct line. I have down to Ralph Goulstone Gale an his siblings. This came from a cousin in New Zealand who had worked on the Goulstone family tree.
Peter
