Hi Monica, That Alexander is certainly a possibility. Grandfather was Archibald. Had a sister Helen. Seemed to have moved around a bit. Will follow this one see how it goes.
Hi Q98, Yes have followed the family from Grandparents Archibald and Grizel McKechan down, haven't found Archibald and Grizel except for marriage and on the Lansborough lists as well as the 1841 census.. They both died between 1841 and 1851. Archibald's death listed in the Church Records, he was a Tailor.
Gives me something to go with thank you, Annie

Monica, You were correct it is the Alexander I am looking for, father John Hamilton and mother Jane, though maiden name looks like McDull. Witnesses, William Hamilton & Ellen Hamilton, his brother and sister. Thankyou so much for that as I probably would never have found him, I can now go on from here, Great work, Annie

Monica, Just to let you know that Alexander found in the 1901 census, they now have 11 children. So, this has been very productive. Looks like they moved every second child. Cannot find his death in the last place Bothwell, Lanarkshire, but will keep trying, Thank you again, Annie

Hi Annie
One search that can sometimes help is to look for the death of wife as you can search SP for wives easier given you can use both maiden name and married name to narrow down options. Given that death certs will show whether spouse was alive or deceased at the time, it can help you narrow down the time frame (and sometimes location) of death of a husband.

Thank you for that monica, I did try for Susan Gilmour but didn't get it. Will try different spellings of Gilmour and see how I go. Wanted to finish this one as I have a couple of other Hamiltons to find later. Only go on Scotlandspeople once a month, otherwise it costs too much so have to wait now. Annie
