You say in your original post in this thread that Mary Bartle Harrodine was John Webb's second wife, after his first marriage to Mary Smith in 1787, and that they had two children, Richard and Elizabeth. Do you have the date of the second marriage and of the baptisms of the two children, and the source of this information?

I have Webbs from the Mordens in my own tree

It's still wrong. How can a second marriage in 1774 be after a first marriage in 1787!!!  Slow down. Don't forget that people in the future will be looking at Rootschat posts either via the search button or through a google search and in some cases taking as gospel what is shown, and copying things into their own trees. That's how errors get perpetuated.

Rather than putting together all of the 1700s Webbs, why not do it the tried and tested way of working backwards from what you know into the unknown. As it stands at the moment you haven't got past 1901 to find David's birth and parents. See the thread on the Cambs board

There's no indication in the marriage entry that the 1774 marriage in Bassingbourn was John Webb from Steeple Morden - both were of the parish of Bassingbourne, and were bachelor and spinster, so it wasn't a second marriage for either of them. More work needs to be done to prove that they were the parents of Elizabeth and Richard in Steeple Morden.

john webb and mary bartle harrodines SON john webb married

sarah knott - 1st marriage - 1774
&
mary smith - 2nd marriage - 1787

so it does make sense...

but i cannot connect these people to my family yet as i have to find the connection between david webb and ethel m tatham and them... my grandfather says they were from guilden morder, and its not a big place at all so i doubt that there were 2 families there that were not related at all :\ i dont know... but how would i find ethel m tatham's parents?

thanks

If you get the marriage cert of David Webb and Ethel Tatham you'll get her father's name. There's then a better chance of finding her in the 1901 census. If you check freebmd there is nothing obvious other than her marriage.
