Armitage - Nottingham

Hi

I am trying o find information on William Armitage. I know he was living in Nottingham in 1864 with his wife Kate Richardson, as I have their son's birth certificate. William was a policeman and I have managed to get info on his recruitment to the police. However, the only personal details are that he was born in 1835. Unfortunately, it doesn't state where.

Kate had remarried by 1870, so I guess William had died. There is a death listed for 1866 in Nottingham and I wondered if anyone had any parish records?

This is my brick wall - I can't find William on any census records and only have firm details on him from his children's birth certificates. I have been unable to find the marriage of William and Kate. Kate was born in Knutsford, Cheshire - their eldest daughter Annie was born in Bradford in 1863 and then they moved to Nottingham in 1864.

Any help on William's birth of death would be gratefully received.

Found on the 1861 census
Hannah Okffee widow head age 60 b Dukinfield Cheshire
Kitty Armitage widow age 26 daughter b Mottram Cheshire
Ruth Armitage age 5 b Hollingworth Cheshire
William Armitage age 3 months Hollingworth Cheshire.
Dont suppose it is any use at all but thought I would send it anyway

Thanks for the info. I don't think it is the Kate I am looking for. I have birth certificates for two of her children, born after 1861 and her husband was alive at the time of their births.

I think maybe I have unearthed Willima's death. I have just sent for the death certificate, so hopefully I will be able to confirm in the next day or so.

Maybe I am just not suppose to find them before 1862! Thanks anyway,

I did a search of the 1861 census for William using occupation policeman, the only record which came up was

William Armitage aged 21, lodger, railway policeman, born Nottingham living at Falkner Street , Barton St Michael, Gloucestershire.

I did notice a marriage of a William Armitage q/e Sep 1863 Bradford, however there is a female missing off the list!! So maybe that's your Kate.

I have also seen the Bradford marriage and did email the register office, but they tell me that they could not find a marriage.

The death certificate arrived for William yesterday, but I don't think its mine as his wife is Sarah and his occupation is book maker. I am fairly certain he was a draper at the time of his death, as his son's marriage certificate states his father as a deceased draper. Also, I believe his wife to be Kate.

I think I am going to now focus my search on Huddersfield. His last child was born here and this is were his wife remarried.

Maybe I'm jut not meant to find him!
