My grandmother Sarah, we look alike but never met
|
My great great grandma was Louisa Nelson 1838, her mother was Caroline Allen 1814-1862.
Her father was Robert Nelson 1815 his death could be 1856 as the family lived in swannington and I have found this record but not yet confirmed.
I cannot find any parents for Robert. I am stuck.
Any help would be much appreciated--I would love to find if we have a link to Admiral Horatio.

On Freereg there is a baptism in 1821 at Swannington but it is probably too late and it won't help as there is no father given. Do you know if he was born in Swannington?

I think this maybe Carolina's parents marriage on IGI looking at the witness on Carolina's baptism record below.
THOMAS ALLEN & Judith STANNER 02 AUG 1808 Longham, Norfolk, England
I have checked 1851 & 1861 censuses and see that Robert was b in Swannington, also Caroline is a widow in 1861 so your death for Robert seems likely.

Thank you so much for that, the Allen I am sorted with have gone back two more generations.So his mothers surname was Nelson, was he illegitimate? I will start searching Frances Nelson and see what I can find. Any further help would be greatly appreciated.

I wouldn't take Frances for Robert's mother as certain.
Parish records for Swannington may throw up another Robert. I don't think all PRs or Bishops Transcripts are on Freereg.

I have joined the Norfolk FHS and they have a look up service. So I can say that Robert Nelson was born 27.05.1821 his mum was definately Francis Nelson.
Researcher spelt it with I although Frances is usually with E in female.
So I am assuming mum was probably in her teens when she had Robert so she would be born 1800-1806 ish.
I can only find 1 Frances but she was born in Yarmouth 1796, that would make her 25 when Robert was born,any help would be appreciated.

I'm probably clutching at straws!!!
I note there is a Frances b 1795 Great Withcingham on Freereg. This is a few miles from Swannington.
Also a marriage of Israel Newham and Frances Nelson. If by any chance this turns out to be her I have the following census.
1861 census for Hackford by Reepham [just North of Swannington]

If you belong to the Norfolk FHS, You should be able to find out more. It is something to look into anyway.
