Can anyone please help me find the marriage of George Kearon and Susanna (surname unknown) Possibly in Rathdrum or environs around 1825. Two children that I know of were Susan born 1828 and Richard. There were 5 children in total. Both George and Susanna died in 1875. George was a merchant and shipowner in Arklow.

Co. Wicklow Catholic baptism records are online at the Irish Family History pay website at www.irish-roots.ie (they dont have any marriage or non Catholic transcripts yet for Wicklow )
there is a Kearon baptism around that time
Church Baptism Kearon David 1826 Co. Wicklow
although it seems to be in the Parish of Glendalough
it may be worth also trying for variations of the surname - maybe Kearan, Kearnan etc

Thanks Shane for your reply. I was looking for Church of Ireland records. I guess I'll have to wait. I am aware of the name variations.

There is an article in "The Irish Times" Feb 18, 1876 regarding his widow Susanna and the contesting of her will by her daughter and son in law (Susan and Henry Nicholson). In this article George is referrred to as a merchant and shipowner. Again causing confusion is the spelling of the surname Kearon Kearons Kearns Slaters referral to a George Kearns as a ship owner seems more llikely. My George died in 1875 and was born in 1797. Thanks again for your help. Sandra

Hi
Just finished reading Maritime Arklow, a marvellous book that I bought recently and notice a number of Kearons listed, including George Kearon a Grocer of Main Street, Arklow, who was owner of several large ships in the mid 1840s.
Cheers

There were 9 Kearons from Wicklow died in ww1. One was a Nurse, one was a soldier and the rest were in the Navy and Mercantile Marine. Their details are listed in 'The Wicklow War Dead' which will be published in May by Nonsuch Publishing. Written by Tom and Seamus Burnell. Regards. Tom.
