William BETTLES
« on: Sunday 29 March 09 19:54 UTC (UK) »

I am  trying to find  the death date and age of death of William Bettles born approx 1775 at either Souldrop or Bozeat.  He married Hannah Sceal at Newton Bromswold 2/10/1794
If someone has access to the death look ups would appreciate it if someone could check his age at death for me.
many thanks.
maggie May.

There's a burial of a William Bettles age 80 (burial ages are often inaccurate) at Souldrop on 29 Dec 1850. Have you found him in the 1841 census? He and Hannah both 65 were living in Souldrop, neither born in Beds, which implies a birth 1771-76

You'll need to find the registration of his death on www.freebmd.org.uk and purchase his death certificate if you want his date of death and the age that was recorded on the certificate

Hi Maggie I have a Martha Bettles in my tree who was born in 1829 in Hinwick, her father was John Bettles and I have not been able to find the name of her mother, do you think it is the same family?

Best Wishes Bethan

In 1841 living in Hinwick were John and Sarah Bettles, both 45, neither born in Beds, and William 20, Mary 16, John 14, Martha 12, Hannah 7, Sarah 3, all born in Beds

There's an extracted marriage on the IGI on 24 Dec 1827 at Puddington between John Bettles and Sarah Lovell. Might be a second marriage. Hinwick is a hamlet of Podington

David

In 1851 still in Puddington/Podington John 55 born Bozeat and Sarah 56 born Irchester

See post #16 on http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,371285.msg2460232.html#msg2460232 which looks like your John's baptism. He seems to be the son of maggie may's William and Hannah

Hi Maggie May

You have choices!

The first is William, son of William and Ann BETTLE, baptised at Bozeat 19 Mar 1769.  Other children of this couple were:

John bp 1 Sep 1765
Humphry bp 30 Aug 1767
Mary bp 23 Feb 1770
John bp 22 Dec 1771
Elizabeth bp 5 Jan 1777

The second is William, son of William and Elizabeth BETTLE, baptised at Bozeat 12 Apr 1772.  Other children of this couple were:

Mary bp 31 Dec 1769
Elizabeth bp 1 Apr 1774
Robert bp 8 Sep 1776
John bp 12 Feb 1780
Ann bp 31 Aug 1783
Humphrey bp 20 Nov 1785

I think I would put my money on the second William.  Sorry, don't have marriages for either of them.

Thank you so much Orpheus. I will make a note of these two families for future reference and also keep looking for a marriage which probably wont be that easy with some records being destroyed but look you have helped so much and I am forever grateful to you and to everyone else for help given and thats what matters most.
Thank you thank you.

hello Maggie May,   remembered I'd seen the Bettles name previously

It seems Mary Bettles born c 1770 of Bozeat is the wife of this couple

see http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,270998.0.html

Any connection ?

regards John
