I am looking for any information on Joseph Sheldon born c1840 in derbyshire, he was married in 1862 to Mary Spencer born c1840. I think his father was Solomon Sheldon, any information on him would be welcome as well. Joseph & Mary had a son Edward Sheldon born 1862,he married Hannah Hibbert. Thank you in anticipation, Sammy

Hi both
This is puzzling - are you very sure of your details, Sammy?
The one Edward Sheldon married to Hannah that I can see was born ca. 1865 Ashford (there isn't a birth registered for an Edward Sheldon in 1862 in Derbushire as far as I can see). Tracing him back, his parents seem to have been a Joseph born ca. 1818 and Mary born ca. 1820
1871 RG10/3626 79 19 Ashford, Derbyshire Joseph Sheldon, head, 54, labourer, b. Ashford Mary, wife, 51, b. Hamp Stoke George, son, 20, Marble Inlayer, b. Ashford Joseph, son, 17, scholar, b. do. Thomas, son, 14, Marble Polisher, b. do. Henry, son, 12, scholar, b. do. Francis Wm, son, 10, scholar, b. do. Edward, son, 6, scholar, b. do.
Am I looking at the wrong Edward
(Joseph and Mary were already married in 1841, oldest child age 4)

Hi Tati, I think you have found the right family as Edward was born July-Sep qtr 1864 but would show up in a census as 6 years old,and the dates i used for Joseph & mary were only Estimations as I only knew of the one child. Thank you for your help......................Sammy

Thank you again Tati, this information shows me that I was looking at the wrong father for Joseph Sheldon, that it was in fact John and not Solomon as I thought..................Sammy
