There are not very many Lambs in Surrey, but I can't see William in 1841.  Undecided

Do you know who William married? As Pauline says, if you have a marriage certificate for William it should tell you Thomas's occupation.

The Surrey Records Office/Library should be able to send you a photocopy of William's birth entry for a small fee:

Hi,

I do have a copy of the marriage certificate for William and he was already a widower when he married Sarah Mary Bleach in 1850 but all it says for the profession of Thomas his father is that he is deceased.

I dont know why William is not in the 1841 census as his occupation was general dealer unless he was away at sea, its just a shame that there is no access to 1831 census records cause I bet there would be something there. All the other people in my family that are doing the Lambs have hit a brick wall at the same place and its really frustrating.  Shocked

William might be there - I just haven't found him yet.  Wink

Who was William's first wife and were they married before 1841? Would they have any children with them?

It's often easier to narrow people down if you know what family groups to expect to see them in.

he married a Mary, so of the four brides (assuming he's the correct William Lamb) I'd go for Miss Thomas.

I can't see an obvious William with or without Mary in the 1841, even searching just for a William and just for a Mary born around their birth years in Surrey and living in Newington.

Without a place name and birth year there are zillions of Williams and Marys as you can imagine.
