there are only 3 charles cox born in wolverhampton between 1852-1862
1/charles cox 1855
2/ charles henry cox 1856
3/charles alfred cox 1861

on the 1871 census there is only 1 chas.h.cox born in staffordshire living in derbyshire
that is the one i posted?

Charles Henry Cox is my great grandfather.  He died in South Africa 5 Oct 1931 and his death notice states he was 77 years and 3 months.  It also says he was from Dover.  His marriage license states he was from Wolverhampton.
In the 1861 census I found a Chas Henry Cox born 1857 with parents Henry and Maria and siblings Cecilia Jane and Mary in Swansea, Glamorgan, Wales.  I then found Henry, Maria, Cecilia Jane and Henry's mother Mary in Long Whatton Leicestershire in the 1851 census.  I found Henry, Mary and his mother Mary in 1871 in Dover, Kent.  I can't find Charles Henry Cox in 1871 census and he married in 1882 in South Africa at the age of 28.  Somehow this man gained 2 years.  I assume I have the correct family as he had daughters named Mary and Cecilia and a son named Frederick, named after his brother born in 1864 in Dover.  Huh

I thought he might have joined the army or navy and that was why he added 2 years to his age so I looked for all Chas H Coxes in 1871.

so he could be down as charles cox or chas cox born in staffs 1855-1859. or wolverhampton  not with parents somewhere in dover or kent or really anywhere.
i have had a few looks now but still cannot see anything that stands out
of course his name could have been badly mistranscribed as well.
we know that the family moved from leics to wales and then to dover probably to do with his father
working for the railway.
by the way what happened to frederick i cannot see him in 1871 .(did he die prior to 1871)
there is a birth in 1863 in dover of a frederick william cox is this him?

1881 I have Maria Cox as a government teacher (widow) at 82 Arthur Road Lambeth together with Cecilia and Frederick.
I have a death for Henry Cox June 1879 North Aylesford, Kent.
I also have a death for Maria Cox Dec 1902 Lambeth Greater London.

on the 1871 i found for maria she is down as elementary teacher so it is the right one.
