Poppyann,
I wish I knew the answer because I have exactly the same problem.
A husband and wife do not appear on the '41 or '51 (their daughter is on both, living with her grandparents). In '61 the wife appears with the marital status of widow.
I've wondered if it was a failed immigration attempt, or possibly connected with military service. But I suspect I'll never know.
Jann

Lizdb, all the following were born in Cobham, Surrey.
Thomas about 1788 - I haven't found a baptism Sarah 1788 Susanne Sarah 1814 Ann 1817 Edward 1822 William 1824 Mary 1828 Charles 1830.
There were 2 other children, but they died soon after birth. Regards Poppyann

Are you sure they are all still alive in 1841/51?

Hi
Don't know whether this is the same family, but there is a gravestone in St Andrew's church, Cobham, for Mary, the wife of James Skelton who died 1849 aged 70. There was a married daughter Elizabeth who died 1858 aged 26
If it is yours (a bit of a long shot I know) I could send you a photo of it - PM me your email if you'd like it.
Lesley
