Change of name Farrar to Farr
« on: Tuesday 19 May 09 22:14 UTC (UK) »

I can trace my Farr surname to William Farr born in Witley 1757.
I have now found out through a very close DNA match that I am connected to a Farrar surname in the USA. The ancestor of the Farrar surname arrived in Virginia in 1618.
Through research I have found that the Farrar family bought Westwood Estate in the parish of Worplesdon in 1599. This is only 10 - 12 miles from Witley. There were Farrar's christened in Ash and Worplesdon but they were all female.
Has anybody any ideas on how to solve this puzzle

Hi,

You've got about 160 years to cover to link the two families.   Grin Here are my thoughts

1.  Look for wills.  Perhaps the females died young and, there being no direct descendants,  the estate was left to a male relative named Farrar

2.  Check for marriages of the daughters.  Perhaps one of them married a cousin with the same surname. I have a case like that in my family.

Good luck,

Jann
