I have been trying for ages to establish the maiden name of my gt gt gt grandmother...SUSANNAH STILES. Obviously I have been able to source her date and place of birth via census reports... 1801, Feckenham, however I cannot find a record of her marriage to George Stiles (aka Styles). Their first child was born in 1839 so I am presuming they married a year or two prior to that. .... From BMD I can see a marriage in Droitwich (right area) in Dec 1837... vol 18 - 321., however the groom is listed as George MILES.. ! So to my questions ...are mistakes made? ... and to check the details do I have to order a marriage certificate or visit the records office in person ?? Its been really frustrating, but I can't consider this to be a breakthrough until I can confirm the names so any help would be appreciated...
There is this one you see: 1841 HO107; Piece 1200; Book: 2; Folio: 64; Page: 17 Near Droitwich Road Claines
George Miles 30 yrs ag lab not born in county Susannah 25 yrs born in county
There is no child with them so I assume not yours. At the moment, I can only see a Susanna Stiles in 1861 census Added: found them in 1851
There is a marriage in 1840 Susannah Bryan and George Styles, Shipston on Stour but that doesn't seem like the right registration district. You would be able to confirm her name with a child's birth certificate.
Hi Jackie, what a good find - I'd called myself to search all the options and am so glad you have them. Have you managed to find a marriage yet- other than the ones already found. The only other thing I could think of was that one or other was already married- they were older people The children's birth certificates would give Susannah's name though. cheers
