G'day everyone. Your excellent help is required for any advice on how to find any info about the family of my 3xgreat convict grandfather James Doherty born c1781 Templemore Donegal...The following is a brief history of James' known information.  On 15 Aug 1809 James joined the 84th Regiment of Foot for 7 years at Londonderry (Ireland) and sailed for India in September 1810. In April 1812 at Madras Barracks he and 2 other soldiers (Edward McGuire and Henry Lindon)were convicted of  Felony and Burglary and sentenced to 7 years transportation to New South Wales..They were sent to Bengal on the Earl Howe , held in Calcutta jail and sailed from Bengal in October 1813 on the ship Brittania with 10 other military prisoners for New South Wales.  I have no idea of his parentage but his first born girl was named Elizabeth (after his mother?) and first son was named James (after him and his father?)..if anyone could offer any advice it would be very welcome...thanks everyone..Elly on the Gold Coast Queensland Australia
