hi
i am trying to find out if there would be any records for police officers
i am trying to find any information on
william john buckley
born 1848 melbourne derbyshire
i belive he married elizabeth smedley in 1870
on the 1871 census william was already a police man.
any help would be welcome

 If you are in Derbyshire, The Derbyshire Archive/ Record office does have some old records regarding various Police forces in Derbyshire. I know they have the order books of the Derbyshire Police Force in the 1880's.

You can search the online archive to see if they hold any records just enter Police into search box.

Do you know which force he is in i.e. Derby Police Constabulary or Derbyshire County Police Force ?

I wonder if someone has access to the Gale Newspaper website can do a look up for your ancestors name in the Derby Mercury. His name may have been used in newspaper reports.

Comfort, Do you know what his status was in the police force i.e. Constable, Seargant, Inspector etc ?
