FRAMPTONS of Dorset 1600-1800
« on: Friday 04 September 09 17:21 UTC (UK) »

My FRAMPTON ancestors came mainly from these areas of Dorset:
Corfe Castle / Kinson / Tarrant Hinton / Poole

Walter & Mary Frampton had a son Walter b. 1705 Corfe Castle.
Walter & Margaret (Kent) Frampton married 1728 in Corfe Castle.
May have had a daughter Rebecca born 1731. Mother may have died during childbirth.

Walter Frampton & Charity Jenkins married 1733 in Kinson, resided in Pool.
Their son Joseph b. Apr 1734 in Poole, my GGGG-grandfather may have joined a fishing fleet from Poole sometime before 1760 and emigrated to Newfoundland.

If anyone is researching this family, or has any information whatsoever, please get in touch with me.

Regards, Liz

Hi Elizabeth,
I have no idea if this is relevant but do you know that in the Dorset Record Office in Dorchester they have a considerable quantity of Frampton papers?
They revolve round Lulworth Castle. Even if not directly for you, these papers are very interesting.

Hi Toby,

I wasn't aware of this, but will certainly add the Dorchester Record Office to my list of places to visit in the spring. Would love to see what those papers contain. The Frampton name seems to go very far back in that area.

Thanks for the tip!

What an exciting morning!! Finally found a clue to the origin of my Corfe Castle ancestors. Seems the church of Buckland Ripers was destroyed by fire in 1665 and rebuilt by a John or James Frampton. Part of the manor house where they lived was also destroyed, so the Framptons moved to Corfe Castle. Hoping I can connect them to Walter born circa 1675 and son Walter b. 1705.

Cheers, Liz
