Hello,
I am new to genealogy, seeking the wedding date of my maternal great-great-grandparents, who are from County Carlow, Ireland:
James Cavanaugh/Cavanagh and his wife Mary Foley
- born approximately 1820 - married in St. Mullins or Balliglisheen (now Ballymurphy)
James Cavanaugh was born and died in Ireland, and came from a family of farmers and slaters. His wife Mary was born in Ireland, and died in the U.S. in 1910.
Six children of James Cavanagh and Mary Foley are:
i. JAMES CAVANAUGH, b. ?, d. ?, St Mullins, Carlow ii. GARRET CAVANAUGH, b. 07 Sep 1868, St Mullins, Carlow iii. GERALD CAVANAUGH, b. 7 Sep 1869, Borris Co, Carlow, Ireland; d. 26 Sep 1940, Chicago, iv. ARTHUR CAVANAUGH, b. 01 Jun 1871, Borris Co, Carlow, Ireland; d. 25 Dec 1958, Chicago, v. Unknown vi. Unknown
My great-grandfather is iv. Arthur Cavanaugh.
Arthur came to the U.S. and originally worked on a farm in southern Illinois, U.S., before settling in Chicago. One of his brothers went to India and the others to the U.S. Relatives in Ireland are buried in St. Mullins Cemetery, south of Ballymurphy.
I live in the Chicago area, and can help others on this board who are seeking photos of grave sites, documentation, etc.
I appreciate your consideration. Thank you for being here.
Best regards,
Renea B

hi there might i make the suggestion to take a look at this site www.igp-web.com/carlow/BaptismalRecordsBorris.htm i know they have baptismal records online going back to 1782 maybe you'll find another generation back. I do not know if you have access to the borris area, but i was down there in the spring looking at my own family history. There is a graveyard just out of borris called clonagoose and there is a very large plot of kavanaghs there going back a long way. There is also a stately home in borris which belongs to the kavanaghs. I hope this has been of some help. all the best pete

Thank you Pete. The link is currently not available, but I will bookmark it and keep re-trying. Since my original post, I have joined the "Kavanaugh Clann" and have been fortunate to make the acquaintence of a John Kavanagh who lives in County Wexford, Ireland. He has gone to Clonagoose and has photographed graves for me -- he is so incredibly helpful as all the Clann members are. Hearing his story, of doing genealogy for 20 years and still discovering new things, has given me hope that maybe I too will find my Kavanaugh roots some day. If you would care to join, the web address is: http://www.kavanaghfamily.com/
Many thanks for your kind reply, Renea

hi again maybe try this link http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~irlcar2/Baptisims_Borris_index.htm it's the same page but a different way the unfortunate thing about it is that they have alot of years, but nothing from 1813 to 1825. have a look around the carlow aspect of this site, you might pick up something elsewhere. all the best pete
