Ellen Aldred

Hi,
I'm trying to find a baptism record of my GGrandmother confirming who her parents were as I've always gone on census entries, but I can't find an actual baptism entry.
In 1881 she was definately married to Harry/Henry Matthews and they lived at Lomas Yard in Nottingham where Henry was a groom and a gardener. It states her birth as 1861 in Horsley Woodhouse (says Nottingham but it's Derbyshire I believe?). I can't find any baptism entires on Familysearch, Freereg or Freebmd matching her name. Does anyone have a baptism disk for Derbyshire and if so, would it be possible to do a look up for her and who her parents were please?
Many thanks.

Hi Burto,

The best 1871 census match I can see is an Ellen Aldred born ca. 1861 in Heanor (I notice 1901 has Ellen Matthews down as born Heanor)

1871
RG10/3481 11 16
Heanor, Derbyshire
Nelson Street

Richard Aldred, head, 48, Banksman, b. Woodhouse
Sarah, wife, 41, b. Heanor
Amy, dau, 13, Seamer, b. do.
Walter, son, 12, Miner, b. do.
Ellen, dau, 10, b. do.
Elizth, dau, 8 mo, b. do.
Charles Cowlisham?*, son in law, unm, 17, Miner, b. do.

It would really be useful to see her marriage cert to check what she says about her father.

 Smiley

*There's a marriage Richard Aldred/Sarah Cowlishaw, Sep 1855 Basford

Hmmm, odd.

Back in 1861, this same family are at Basford Notts and the little girl aged 7 months is called Sarah E. You'd think it stands for Sarah Ellen at least, but the narest birth registration I can see is
Sarah Elizabeth Aldred, Dec 1860 Mansfield  Huh

Hi Tati,
I always assumed that the Richard Aldred and Sarah Cowlishaw you mentioned were her parents, however it has just dawned on me that I don't actually have any solid proof! I now that I try and find her baptism it doesn't seem to be there!!!

Her marriage cert would be the first step, don't you think?

Otherwise even if you find a christening (and her birth place seems to differ from census to census), how would you be able to tell she's the one who marries Harry Matthews?  Undecided

This seems like the baptism of Ellen (Sarah E in 1861)

Heanor St Lawrence
Derbys
all to parents Richard Aldred/Sarah
Richard's occupation Collier
address "City"
Sarah Ellen Aldred
Walter Aldred b 12/3/1856
Mary Aldred
all christened 1 jan 1868 (date of birth only given for Walter)

also
christened heanor St lawrence to parents Richard Aldred/Sarah
Richard's occ Collier
address heanor
Sarah Ellen Aldred 15 Nov 1860
Roger Aldred c. 25 /4/1864 b. 7/1/1863

Complicated!!!!!

If Ellen (or Sarah Ellen was b H Woodhouse her birth reg would be Belper dist
if Heanor Basford dist

as Tati says, the best way to go is to purchase the marriage cert

Hi,
Got her marriage certificate and it says her father was Richard Aldred a collier. They married in Nottingham in 1880 and Ellen was 20. Witnesses were Richard and Maria Matthews, does that help?
