Bishop Burton-on-Trent Baptist
« on: Thursday 22 October 09 16:38 UTC (UK) »

This is a wild stab that someone may be able to help me?

I am trying to find out what happened to a great grand aunt - Cecily Margaret Bishop.
She was born in Wellington, SOmerset in 1866 and was living there, still single, in 1911.
The last I hear of her is in a will dated 1939 which says that she was living in Burton on Trent.

I do not know what she was doing there, although it is possible she had moved to join other family members who had moved north.

She was an active member of the Baptist church in Wellington, so she is likely to have been connected to a Baptist church in Burton.

Hi

Have you checked for her death post-1939 on the full GRO index as a copy of her death cert may give some clues (no guarantees though)

I have not found her death yet.
I did trawl through the full registers on Ancestry some time ago looking for family deaths but may have missed her.
Is there an easier way than going through year by year on a site such as Ancestry?

Hi

Unfortunately not at the moment.  It's the long haul downloading all the images and checking them I'm afraid

I understand that Ancestry are in the process of transcribing deaths up to 1983 so whenever they put the transcriptions online may be a good time to ask for a lookup.

WHen they put some more useful indices on line will be the time toconsider renewing my subscription.
As long as they don't make it some super-platinum membership requirement.
I was disappointed when I upgraded my Family Tree software with a supposedly 'free 6 months Ancestry sub' to find it was only a basic with access to censuses and one has to pay more for the other databases. I notice they are still advertising this offer without making it clear how limited it is.
Meanwhile, I will check a few years next time I go to the library.
In the meantime, you never know someone may notice something relating to my query
Thanks for your advice
