It's also better to cite what research you've already carried out - it'll save us duplicating anything you've already tried.
I noticed on IGI and ScotlandsPeople that there are a number of Hackerstone births in the area around the era you mention. Name variants might be a problem.
I've asked the mods to move your post to the Fife board.

Hi Flourgurl,
I am the person with the name Halkerstoun in her tree. I wondered if you could list any other Halkerstouns in your tree so we could compare notes?
It is such an unusual name there is a good chance of a connection. My Halkerstouns were all around the Beath area.

Hi Tab11 - glad to meet you. Am working strictly on my mom's maternal line. My GM Mary Halkerstone b. 1657 Beath married John Buchanan.
Diddy found me these in Beath, which I haven't been able to connect but, judging by the dates, looks like one may be Mary's father: John H. died 5/12/1670 age 60, widow Margt Pearson. Also, James H. died 1672, leaving widow Marie Moorbeck.
Do you know if either John or James was Mary's father?

Hi Flourgurl,
My Halkerstoun line relates to my father's maternal line. I don't actually have a Mary Halkerstoun in the direct line but I am sure there must be some connection. My Halkerstoun's go as follows:-
James Beugo m Anna Halkerstoun (31/03/1713.) Her father was William Halkerstoun (1683 - 1737.) His father was James Halkerstoun (1640 - 1685.)
His father was Henry Halkerstoun 1586 and then John Halkerstoun 1560.
Do any of these names feature on your tree? Who do you have before Mary
Halkerstoun??
With the Beath connection I am sure there must be a link...Tab 11
