The Murder of Jessie PAGE
« on: Monday 15 June 09 20:08 UTC (UK) »

After spending 10 years of trying to find out about my great-grandfather, Charles Page of Ipswich, and his family, I've finally had a breakthrough, but in doing so, I have uncovered a huge skeleton in the families closest... Charles father, George Page, killed his mother, Clarissa (aka Jessie) when he was 8 months old, in September 1891. (See attached image)

I am looking to visit the Suffolk records office in the near future, but I am just wondering if anyone else has come across this murder in any newspapers, documents etc... whilst they have been at the records office, and have written down any details about it

Regards

Lee

Hi Sue

Thank you very much for those journal pages. It does paint a sad picture of the world my great-grandfather was born into. It will be interesting to find out if George Page was convicted for Jessie's murder, though by the 1901 census its look like he was a free man

Hi Lee

In the Winter Assizes of 1891 it was decided that there was insufficient evidence to take this case to trial and therefore a formal verdict of not guilty was recorded and the prisoner was discharged.

Hi Jibba

It is very likely that a coroners inquest was also held. But I dont think they would tell you much more than what is reported in papers from my experience.

My great, great grandfather Jesse Titshall committed suicide in 1894 in Letheringham in Suffolk. I found many newspaper reports and a coroners report but 98% of what was in the coroners report, I already found out in newspapers.
