John Morrison Linlithgow
« on: Friday 19 October 07 02:42 UTC (UK) »

I have John and wife Margaret (Wallace) in the 1841age 36,,1861,age 60,1871 age 70.census in Linlithgow. Margaret died in December 1871 and John seems to have disappeared. He does not seem to have died in West Lothian.
I downloaded index of all John Morrison deaths with birth 1800 +- 1 from 1871-1955. after a few wrong certificates I am at a loss. anyone have any suggestions. miska

Hello,
Just been on to SP and did a search from 1801 +/- 5yrs (to accomodate the age 36 on the 1841 census), to 1870 - 1905 and come up with none.
Other option is that he went to stay with his eldest son, on being widowed - if he had one.  Found that with one of my long lost rellies.  I take it you've got Margarets death entry and that he was still alive? Was he down as the informant?
You may want to post a list of children if you have, so that another poster with access to census records may be able to help .

Good luck.

Hi Miska,

Have you checked that the "include unrecorded ages" box on ScotlandsPeople has been checked? This can sometimes bring up searches missed before. I notice there are three John Morrison deaths in West Lothian between 1871 and 1881 (I can't see him in the latter census), all between 0 and 10.

Two are aged 0. I was just wondering if that's what John's age at death has been listed under? Undecided

Hello
Last post of the day.
Just been on to the IGI (www.familysearch.org)
It shows 3 children,- all born in Linlithgow to John Morrison and Margaret Wallace.  It has him being born 'abt 1799'  married 05 Aug 1824, Linlithgow.

Elizabeth Morrison b. 17 Sep, 1827
                              c.  28 Oct, 1827
John Morrison        c.   12 Sep, 1830

James Morrison      c.  29 Jul 1838

So, the only option I see.

Marriage and Census search for the children - see where they lived and search those areas. See if father lived with one of them.

Regards,   Steve

Hi!
John Morrison and Margaret Wallace were married in Linlithgow in 1824
Known Children
Agnes      abt 1824/25   ( mother of John Buchanan Morrison)
Elizabeth    1827
John      1830
Margaret   1834 (from census)
Thomas    1836 ( from census)
James       1837

1841 census
Address: High Street
MORRISON   John   M   36   Shoemaker Journeyman    West Lothian
MORRISON   Margt   F   35       Outside Census County (1841)
MORRISON   John   M   10       West Lothian
MORRISON   Margt   F   7       West Lothian
MORRISON   Mos   M   5       West Lothian     (Thomas)
MORRISON   Jas   M   2       West Lothian
1861 census  Linlithgow
John    60
Margaret    58
James      20  son
Grandsons- John12   William 9 and David 7 --------all Morrison
1871 census Linlithgow
John    70
Margaret   70 wife
James       32 son  unmarried
David Baillie    17 grandson
Andrew      13 grandson

My search starts with grandson John age 12 in 1861. I have his marriage and death certificates. His Mother is  recorded as Agnes Morrison  no father recorded. ( on death cert John  has a middle name of Buchanan.) He named one of his daughters Margaret Wallace Morrison and this gave me the link to his grandparents. Of Agnes I can find no trace anywhere  . I did find that David Baillie Morrison  the grandson in the 61 and 71 census is also her son. I have his marriage cert.( David Baillie reputed father) I put her at abt 1824 as Margaret’s Mother was called Agnes and usually the first daughter is named for her maternal granny. I had hoped that if I could trace grandfather John’s death I might find Agnes. It looks like she was still around in 1854 ish when David was born. She is driving me mad.
Thank you both for your help. I will keep trying.  Miska

Hi Mukkie

First may I say sorry for the delay in replying. I changed my e-mail address and did not update it.
I am so grateful for this info. I have been looking for him for a long time.

Do you have a connection to the Morrisons of Linlithgow?
This is my husbands family, he is a native of Linlithgow.
His G Grandfather was the son of Agnes Morrison, daughter of John Morrison.
I would like to find out what happened to Agnes.
Many thanks for your help. regards Miska

Hi Miska

In answer to your question I do have a connection to the Morrisons of linlithgow, With regard to find out what happened to Agnes I'm afraid I can't help you there, I have also searched for her and can find no trace although I am convinced I will eventually find her. my g grandfather was also the son of Agnes Morrison.
