Hello
Can someone please help me find out what happened to Richard Aitken, b.12 May 1874, West Linton, Peeblesshire, Scotland?
All, I have is that he started work in a bank, left at some stage for South Africa, where he continued to be a banker.
Would love to know how and when he got to South Africa, also anything about his banking in Scotland, then in South Africa, and about his family? i.e. who did he marry, did he have children, when did he die, and where?
Any info would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Hello
This further info kindly given to me by Mamakaz might help someone build up more of a picture to help me please, please, please...........?
UK Incoming Passenger Lists 1878 - 1960:
Richard Aitken b abt 1874, age 37 accompanied by Robert Aitken, age 1 - 12 years. Port of Departure: Quebec, Canada Port of Arrival: Liverpool, England
Empress of Ireland Canadian Pacific Line
If this is 'my' Richard travelling from Canada to UK, at age 37, this voyage would have been +/- 1911?
~~~~~~~~-------------------------------
Don't know from which passenger lists:
Also, Richard Aitken, trip Glasgow - New York, 1891, no further details, don't know if same Richard Aitken? he would have been age 17 years, if it is 'my' Richard? A year after he was a Bankers Clerk in Scotland.
~~~~~~~~-------------------------------
Also, Mr John Aitken, 2nd Class Passenger, Thurs 12 July, 1900
SS Furnessia Glasgow - New York
No further details, and don't know if this John Aitken, is connected to John Aitken of possibly 1851 Census of Scotland, showing a John Aitken (Lodger) at Entryhead, Scotsdon, Newlands, Scotland?
~~~~~~~~-----------------------------
Richard Aitken appears in 1891 Census of Scotland, age 16, Bankers Clerk, but not in Census of 1901 with rest of family, which suggests he left the UK 1892 - 1900?
Some living relatives in South Africa, seem to think that Richard left Scotland, for South Africa, but as I know of American cousins, could he have gone to USA or Canada instead?
Cheers
Hello
Family folklore now has it, that Richard may have died in the 1918 'Flu Pandemic?
If this were the case, and one doesn't know in which country this may have occurred, any suggestions on how to proceed would be much appreciated.
Thank you
Richard Aitken, it has been confirmed, was working in the Bank of Scotland, West Linton, before his emigration. He joined the bank as a Bankers Clerk at age 16.
He followed his eldest brother, Robert Aitken, into the RBOS, WL.
By the 1901 Census, he is no longer at home with the family, in West Linton, and his two elder brothers, Robert and Thomas, have both emigrated. Robert to India, and Thomas to the Cape Verde Islands.
Any info would be appreciated.
Cheers
At last, a scrap of paper, written in a long dead rellie's hand, has come to light, and the mystery of where RICHARD AITKEN emigrated to, has been solved.
Richard Aitken, known as DICK AITKEN emigrated to Johannesburg, South Africa.
He continued his career, started all those years ago in the West Linton Branch of the Royal Bank of Scotland, and was a very successful Johannesburg BANKER.
If anyone can help please with his shipping passage details, that would be great. Don't yet know when he left Scotland for South Africa, but anytime after the 1891 Scotland Census, when he is 16, living at home, and a "Bankers Clerk" and the 1901 Census, when he is no longer at home.
Help please?
Cheers
