Hello:
I am searching for a birth date and where this person was born.
This is what I have. Joseph Pattinson, born abt. 1875 in England. His parents were Joseph Pattinson & Ruth Neil. I got this from a marriage license from Kingston, Ontario, Canada.
I am hoping to find also when he came to Canada. The woman he married was Sarah Todd and I know that she came from Cumberland, England

MMM! You may have a problem here with "Pattinson". The variations could be endless. I once had a landlord that berated me for putting in a glottal stop into his "patterson" saying it wasn't "pattu/son".Do you know where the wife was born in Cumberland?  If you do try freebmd and birth, "patt*" as surname, joseph as forename, 1873 to 1876 in the dates and cumberland in the district, there are several variations on pattinson and if one of them is from the same or similar birthplace to spouse, you can order birth cert specifying parents so you only get the correct one. If he was out of county (and remember westmorland and lancashire were  then owners of what are now parts of the county) you may well struggle. 
Also there are lists of emigrees but these are probably on pay for sites.

Hi

His wife Sarah Todd was b in Egremont-Cumberland..in 1901 she was a servent living in Blackburn...so she at least didnt go to Canada until after the 1901 cencus was taken  Huh
