Swinton, Lancs - Methodists - confused
« on: Saturday 18 July 09 12:46 UTC (UK) »

Got a 1933 marriage certificate stating marriage took place at Unitarian Chapel, Granville St, Swinton
but when I try and locate it or research it I keep getting sent to a Methodist Chapel that was located on Swinton Hall Road (aka Jane Lane) Swinton.

Am I missing something crucial - very confused!?!

Huh Undecided

thank you

Plimmerian.

I did a search and came up with this: http://legacy.thisislancashire.co.uk/lancashire/bolton/info/churches.html, there are contact details for the Unitarian Ministers/Churches on this link!

Hi,

I rather think think the Unitarian Chapel was on the corner of Jane Lane (Swinton Hall Road) and Granville Street.
See:
http://www.genuki.org.uk:8080/big/eng/LAN/Swinton/
and scroll down to Churches.  The marker for the church indicates that it was the exact location against "somewhere around there"

I'm sure that area is now a shopping complex / car park!!!

I'll have to go back and check it out sometime.

best wishes,

Ian.

hi again

a friend took me out for a spin and went via Swinton - finally found the road called Granville St which does run off Swinton Hall Road and leads to a car park / shopping centre complex n flats.

No chapel and no graveyard!!!

Very disappointed.

Sad
