*COMPLETED* Ann MALCOLM b. 1841 Largs
« on: Friday 03 April 09 12:44 UTC (UK) »

Ann MALCOLM  b. abt 1841 Largs  - parents Alexander MALCOLM & Ann COCHRAN

Ann MALCOLM married on 16 Jun 1863  at Rutherglen, Lanark

I can't find Ann's birth or the death of her parents or the marriage of her parents or where any of them were for the 1841 census. I think Ann had an older sister Rebecca. I don't know of other siblings. I have Ann in the 1851 census:

1851
Place: Rutherglen -Lanarkshire Enumeration District: 18
Civil Parish: Rutherglen Ecclesiastical Parish, Village or Island: -
Folio: 630 Page: 4 Schedule: 15
Address: 43 Main Street

Surname  First name(s)  Rel  Status  Sex  Age Occupation  Where Born   Remarks
KERR William     Head   M   M  28  Ovens Man At Coal Pit  Lanarkshire - Rutherglen
KERR Elisabeth   Wife   M   F   32                                   Lanarkshire - Glasgow
MALCOLM  Anne  Niece  U   F   10    Scholar                     Ayrshire - Largs

Census information Crown Copyright, from www.nationalarchives.gov.uk

The connection to KERR is correct because that name appears as a middle name for two of Ann's children.

So far I can't find the actual connection between the families.  This is all I know of Ann's parents from the marriage record:

"...Ann Malcolm (22), cotton thread worker... Alexander Malcolm, Cotton and Silk weaver/Ann Cochran (deceased)..."

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Fred

Hello Eva,

Thank you very much.  It's curious the privately submitted marriage in Ayr is the day before the one in Lanark.  I wonder if they actually married twice?

Thanks for the possible connection between the families.

Regards,

Fred

Hi Fred

Likely entry for them in 1841, huge long list on the transcribed index which makes it impossible to figure out households:

Alexander Malcom 29, weaver
Anne Malcom 30, b. Scotland
Archibald Malcom 6
Jane Malcom 4
Rebecca Malcom 2
Anne Malcom 5 (months?)

Address: Nelson Street, Largs

Hello Monica,

Thank you very much.  Yes, I would say 5 months is correct, certainly not 5 years - I have Ann born about 1841.

This family also gives me the right royal treatment. They move to Ireland with 3 children, have a few more and then some of them end up in Australia. I'm lucky that it's about 80% complete now after a lot of work. Now I'm working at the top of that branch.
