I was hoping someone might be able to point me in the right direction.
I would really like to find the marriage of my great, great ,great, great grandfather Donald Budge to Janet Brown. The usual searching has come up blank.
Their first child was born in 1773, so I'm guessing they would have been married not long before. All their children were baptized in the Watten, Halwick area and Donald was a farmer at Toftingall.
If someone could give me an idea where else to look, I would be very appreciative.

Hi,
Don't know if it helps but for mine I have found some marriage references on some of the childrens birth entries plus some on their (the children that is) death entries. It seemed to depend upon the minister.
June
(sorry...also the childrens marriages - I've spent a lot on this!)

On Freecen in the 1841 and 1851 censuses, there is a William Budge and family at Toftingall in Watten Parish. In 1851 he is aged 72. He and his son were both born in Halkirk Parish. You should be able to get his death on Scotland's People, which will give his parents names. There were still Budges in the Toftingall/ Spittal area well into the 20th century.

Many thanks spittalhill and junev for your replies
Rather embarrassingly, with so many names swirling round in my head, I gave the wrong spouse!
It's Donald Budge and Christian Douglas that I'm looking for.
I have all their children's baptisms and they include Donald and Christian's names but no other clues. Likewise, two definite marriages of their children.
ScotlandsPeople just doesn't bring up their marriage (he was also supposed to have a second marriage to Johanna Morgan, but again no record. So I'm wondering just what I can do next?
Thanks again Simon Budge

Hi Simon
Nothing at all seems to show for Donald's marriage(s) does it. This is a great site for BUDGE OPR entries. Their children, which you already have show there. - see below*
There are numerous references to BUDGE and Toftingall, but I would imagine you may not have been able to make the links as yet that far back http://uk.geocities.com/fnsnclr@btinternet.com/genealogy/Caithness/Toftingall.htm
There are a number of people researching Budge in the same areas/ time frames. For example, these posts seem to connect with your line: http://listsearches.rootsweb.com/th/read/BUDGE/2003-07/1057336079 or on Ancestry, the same people: http://boards.ancestry.com/surnames.budge/69.2/mb.ashx

If you go to Rootsweb and click on Family Trees, and do an advanced search for Donald Budge and Christian Douglas, you will find someone else researching your line.

That's great spittahill
Also,on Family Search at www.familysearch.org, there is in the Pedigree Resource File section, a member submitted file ref : 423866-0311100075959 (you just insert this ref. in the submission ref. box on the search screen of the PDF) for Donald and Christian's family.
They have Donald's parents as John Budge and Janet Bain, which would seem to be the most obvious entry looking at IGI and supported by the naming of their early born children:
Donald Budge 21 AUG 1748 Watten - christening.
A number of children show to this couple on IGI if you do a parent search. To do a 'parent search' on the International Genealogical Index (IGI) screen at FamilySearch, simply put in father/mother's full names and then select Great Britain and Scotland and search.
Again lots of refs. on google to this potential set of parents for Donald - just search as "john budge" +"janet bain" +caithness +genealogy and it will bring the links up.
