Nether Witton Church Completed
« on: Friday 03 April 09 15:41 UTC (UK) »

Does anyone know if there are monument inscriptions for the Nether Witton Church?  I am interested in Turners from Coatyards and Ritton White House for the time 1750-1850.  I am trying to sort out the various Turner families I am finding on IGI to see if they are connected to my Turner family, Elizabeth Jane Turner christened in 1824, daughter of John Turner and Jane Williams.

from genuki:

A transcript of monumental inscriptions at Netherwitton (microfiche TN77) is published by Northumberland and Durham Family History Society and these records are also available in book form at Newcastle Central Library, Local Studies Department.

Diddy,
Thank you.  I will be visiting from the U.S. in November.  Do you need to join the Northumberland and Durham Family History Society to use the microfiche?  Is it necessary to reserve a machine?

Sue,

As Diddy writes,  you will get access to transcrption of MIs at NDFHS at Bolbec Hall ( name of building) in Newcastle (close to Central Metro Staion)

Newcastle City Library Local Studies has just closed down, completing a big move to the new library, built on the same site as library recently demolished. But scheduled to reopen at beginning of June 2009 ( nearest Metro staion will be Monument.)

For sight of film of the original church registers ( as opposed to transcripts, sometimes abbreviated) go to Northumberland County Record Office, situated at Woodhorn in Northumberland, about 14 miles north of Newcastle.
( Woodhorn lies about 2 miles east of the town of Ashington)
www.experiencewoodhorn.com

The Record Office shares a complex which includes the old Woodhorn coal mine, turned into a mining museum.

Diddy and Michael,
Thank you for your advice and information.  Sorry I took so long to reply.  My mother is in the hospital.
