It's going to be extremely difficult to find information on this family in Irelnd without a more exact place than 'Tipperary'- you need to know the family's religion and where they lived (parish if not actual townland) to search Irish records.
Do you have the marriage certificate for Patrick and Margaret?- should list his father's name and occupation which will give you some information. If they married in Ireland then you'll also have residences at time of marriage and place of marriage (if under civil registration- 1864 and later for Catholic marriages and 1845 and later for other marriages).
What about children- any born in Ireland between 1864-1871? birth certificates will list mother's maiden name.

there are just two Rohan entries on Griffiths Valuation (taxation survey, c1855, heads of household) for Co. Tipperary

Surname      First Name      Townland      Parish      County

Rohan   Thomas   Summerhill   Nenagh   Tipperary
Rohan   Catherine      New Street   Carrick   Tipperary

from http://www.failteromhat.com/  for some reason the other free online Griffiths at http://griffiths.askaboutireland.ie/gv4/gv_start.php show no Rohan entries in Co. Tipperary

if this fits with your timeframe then these may be two locations to follow up..

the Rohan surname is most common in Cork/Kerry

You have to be careful how you use the search-engine: for Tipperary there are 3 alternatives:

a. Tipperary
b. Tipperary North Riding
c. Tipperary South Riding

a is not a superset of b and c; perhaps a is used where either the Valuation or the transcribers are uncertain which half of Tipperary the tenement is in.

Both Rohans appear correctly: one in North Riding, one in South Riding.

A search of The Irish Genealogy Project website for Tipperary
http://www.igp-web.com/IGPArchives/
turns up 3 Rohan references -very early headstone inscriptions from St Mary's cemetery in Thurles - Patrick Rohan as sponsor for a marriage in 1832 Toomevara and Slaters Directory 1856 shows a James Rohan cooper in Carrick-on-Suir.
On the brsgenealogy sites for North and South Tipperary there are a number of records for Patrick Rohan and also for the surname variant Roughan . You can search this site for free but to view each record costs euro5.
Website http://tipperarynorth.brsgenealogy.com/  - for Tipperary South just substitute south for north.

Hope this is of use

With the help that  I received of all you good people I went back and searched the UK records for a marriage for Patrick and Margaret and I found it. They were married in Liverpool in 1852 . They were both from Tipperary but it dosn't say what part. Her maiden name was O'Brian and her father was Michael a farmer.
Patricks father was Thomas Rohan a tailor. On the marriage cert her age is 21  and his is 20 so she was born in 1830/31 and he was boen 1831/32. I have searched the Nth Tipperary IFF site and they have a Patrick 1832 but when I put in the fathers name as Thomas it said no match . Can anyone find Rohan's who are tailors in any of the tipperary references. Thank you
