Hi Sylvia.  A tack (Scottish term) in this instance is almost certainly a lease of land. A tacksman in the Scottish Highlands is one who holds a lease and sublets.

Thanks Isles, sorry for the delay
I was hoping it might be something to do with staffing. My George Steven was a butler, according to his daughter's DC, somewhere in Aberdeen late 1700's.
Might be worth following it up though
