Births in Malpas
« on: Wednesday 15 July 09 15:16 UTC (UK) »

Does anyone have any access / knowledge of births in Malpas, Cheshire? I'm currently hitting a brickwall Sad

I am trying to verify who was the father of John Stevenson born approx 1787 - 1791. Also hoping to get a more accurate date.

Possible other family members - nothing confirmed:
Was his father Ambrose Stevenson and his mother Ann Palin?
Did he have an older brother called Ralph born approx 1789 and died 1867?
Does any one have any Wills made by the above whose contents might reveal other family members?

According to the 1851 census, John Stevenson is described as born in Malpas.
John Stevenson married Sarah Hatton in 1820 in Acton and lived in Ridley.

Cheers for any help, everything much appreciated.

Hello Anjeyelf,

Have you looked at the web site for the Cheshire Record Office?

http://apps.cheshirewestandchester.gov.uk/RecordOfficeWillEPayments/search.aspx

They show a Will for Ralph Stevenson, gentleman, of Malpas who died in 1867. It is possible to order this online.

The Tithe Maps of Cheshire, also online on the RO site, show Ralph Stevenson to have been a substantial landowner in Tilston, which is near to Malpas. They list his holdings there.

Best wishes,

Jo.
