HELP! Louth County, Wallace, Matthews
« on: Saturday 04 April 09 05:56 UTC (UK) »

I am struggling researching my family history in Ireland.  My Great great grandparents emigrated from County Louth through Liverpool between 1886 and 1891 to Montgomery County, Pennsylvania.  My grandmother was Elizabeth Mary Wallace (b. Feb 1865 Louth d. 1943 Lansdale, Montgomery PA) parents Patrick Wallace (b. 1846, Louth) and Mary N. (Wallace) (b. 1834 older woman) Elizabeth married Nicholas Matthews (b. Nov. 1862, Stabannan, Louth, Ireland).  It took me about 3 years to find the county.  Does anyone have any ideas of where to find additional records.  I am stuck.  Thank you, PS

Welcome to Rootschat. I've moved your post from Irish Resources (which is for posting information not queries) to Co. Louth board so it will be seen by people who might be able to help. Could you tell us what sort of 'additional records' or information you are looking for?

Thank you.  I was not aware that there was a specific County Louth board.  I am looking for any census records, birth, death, marriage or Catholic parish records.  I am also not sure about what other records that would help me with information going farther back in my history.  I would also like to order and certificates that I can add to my records.  Thank you.  I am new in researching in Ireland.  It took me 3 years to find the county my family emigrated from in 1886 to Pennsylvania.

To start with you can have a look at some of the topics at the top of the Louth board which might help you:
www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/board,70.0.html

First complete census for Ireland is 1901 and only small fragments of earlier ones survive for a few areas.
Civil registration of births, deaths and Catholic marriages started in 1864. See index to civil registrations here:
http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#p=collectionDetails;t=searchable;c=1408347
If you find something there you wish to order-
www.groireland.ie/apply_for_a_cert.htm

Other people more familiar with Co. Louth records will be able to help you with location of church records, etc.
